Stretching can't reach a pattern problem

Feel Powerful in Your Body

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.

— Henry Ford

Hey Team,

If you've been practicing for 5, 10, 15, 20 years...
and one hip is still tighter...
one shoulder is always sticky...
one hamstring is consistently cranky...

It's not a flexibility problem.
It's a pattern problem.
And stretching can't reach it.

Your body is less like levers and pulleys and more like a wondrous web. When you experience persistent pulls, it's a compensating pattern.

Until you address the underlying pattern, you can stretch until the cows come home but you'll only get 20 minutes of relief before the pattern pulls you back.

This week's podcast unpacks what to do instead.

📺 Why Stretching Doesn't Fix Tight Muscles

May your practice be different,
Alison

Feel Powerful in Your Body Travel far enough, you meet yourself. — David Mitchell Hey Team, I did this practice every day in California. No mat (he'll get you if you're on the floor). No stretches. All functional strength. The Shoulder Press Super Set has a yoga flow feel with progressive strength....

Feel Powerful in Your Body An object in motion stays in motion. — Isaac Newton Hey Team, Tuesday's practice showed you how to blend yoga and strength. Today's podcast is about why it's worth it. And I directly contradict at least 3 things I've taught for years. If you've been dragging your feet on strength training, I'm sharing 5 unexpected benefits that turned it from a should-do into a don't-wanna-miss.Three of these happen to almost everyone. One is personal to me. And the grand finale is...

Feel Powerful in Your Body The secret of getting ahead is getting started. — Mark Twain Hey Team, Most strength training ignores how your body actually moves. It trains parts. Isolated muscles. Disconnected effort. This practice does the opposite. It works the functional lines — the cross-body connections you need for every day activities. Like lifting a skillet or serving dish out of a lower cabinet, swinging a kid from one hip to the other, getting your luggage into the overhead bin, and so...
